Anyone had success with becoming a parent post injury as a quad? My husband has been injured since 92 and we want to start a family. He does not ejaculate. Please only reply of you have personal experience:)
As an atheist, I would advocate taking an active approach to fertility rather than praying about it. I am a para who now has children.
The first thing is to talk with your husband's doctor. Even if he cannot ejaculate from regular intercourse, there are ways of getting sperm. The first method is by using a vibrator. Some people can use just run of the mill vibrators but others need something like the ferticare (there is one other that I cannot think of right now). The website is http://www.medicalvibrator.com/. They are expensive so you might be able to borrow one from a local VA medical center or a fertility specialist. TALK WITH YOUR DOCTOR FIRST BECAUSE YOUR HUSBAND MIGHT EXPERIENCE AUTONOMIC DYSREFLEXIA. It you can get sperm out this way, you can start with the "turkey baster" method of depositing it inside of you with a syringe.
If you cannot get sperm this way, they can do an electric ejacultation but that requires that is be done in the doctor's office. Lastly, if that does not work, they can extract sperm with either a small incision or a needle retrieval from him.
Once you have sperm, one way or another, you can do the "turkey baster", go to a fertility specialist and have IUI where the doctor takes the sperm and puts it in the optimal place inside of you, and finally if all else fails, they can use the sperm for invitro fertilization.
Hope this helps but definitely start with your doctor and keep pushing until you find the right people.
Hi, You may be interested in knowing more about one of the new therapies in development by NordicLifeSciencePipeline.com. It is called Vitalon - a novel class of experimental drug treatment that can reactivate the lumbosacral spinal cord network for ejaculation.

Thanks everyone! We are in the process of pursuing options. To my atheist friend, praying about something is not mutually exclusive of taking an active approach. ;)
